Before deciding to enroll your child in our schools, we strongly recommend that you visit one of our locations, speak with the director about our program, and observe a classroom. We believe it is vitally important that each parent understands the Montessori philosophy to determine if our program is a good match for their child. There is no better way to do this than observing a class in session.
Please plan at least 30 minutes to an hour for your visit and observation. During the hour, we will discuss Montessori education, our program, allow you to observe a class for at least twenty to thirty minutes, and allow time for any questions. A classroom observation is the best way to determine if Montessori is right for you and your child.
Please call to set up an appointment at one of our locations: MSND:
(972)985-8844 or WPMS: (972)618-8844. Scheduling appointments
allows us to minimize disruption for the classrooms.
When you observe a Montessori classroom, parents should look for certain
factors:
- Are the children happy? Are they enjoying what they are doing? Is there an aura of happiness in the classroom atmosphere?
- Are the children involved and interacting with the materials? Are the majority of the children absorbed in what they are doing?
- Are the children treated with respect?
- Is there a quiet hum of activity?
- Does the classroom environment appear attractive and orderly?
- Do the adults appear to love their work and the children?
- If you were a child, would you want to be in this classroom?
All students are assessed prior to entering MSND or WPMS. This is not a formal test, but a visit to the classroom, observation of the student and conversation with the teachers. Primary students are observed in the classroom setting. They may choose jobs to do and may be asked specific questions about numbers, letters, reading, etc. Parents may wait during the assessment. Elementary students are given a more formal evaluation, with tasks to complete and a conversation with the teachers. This time can be conducted concurrently with the tour process or separately depending on the parents' needs.
A Montessori education cannot be conveyed by words alone. Come for a visit to see for yourself the magic and success of this approach. We look forward to meeting with you.
