"The object of education is an entity in the process of becoming a human being. Education should not focus on special functions, faculties, or skills, but on the whole personality."
Dr. Maria Montessori
The Montessori elementary curriculum provides a non-competitive, intellectually and chronologically diverse learning opportunity. Children are valued for their individuality and special gifts and talents. Through a culturally enriched curriculum, children take responsibility for exploring the universe and researching those areas of particular interest to them. The emphasis is on learning, not rote memorization.
Learning grows and blossoms in the Montessori Elementary classrooms. With three primary areas of learning within our standard curriculum, the breadth and depth possibilities of our Montessori curriculum extend well beyond traditional curriculum models. The environment builds on the pre-primary experience, reflects a new stage of development, and offers the following:
- All children are approached as individuals and allowed to progress at their own rate.
- Exposure to a complete and prepared environment that includes: language, math, foreign language, history, geography, geology, biology, computer science, music (performances), creative art, physical education, good manners and social graces.
- The activities for all subjects are supported by tangible manipulative devices that invite children to discover and clearly understand all of these areas.
